At first it was just something I would laugh at, but now it has gone from stupid to ridiculous. I could not "handle" it in myself anymore not to take a stand for the game, the manga, (I guess the anime too), and just the franchise itself.
First, people have been claiming that accidents are happening because of Pokemon Go. Okay, so you mean that the people who do NOT look both way, or just in front of them when crossing the street are not to blame? I understand there are people who are driving and playing, but was it really the games fault? Not the person who was behind the wheel? People would argue that it's because they are engrossed in the game too much that they don't pay attention. That's right, PEOPLE, are too much into the game. Please do not blame the game, because it's convenient. Blame yourself for not being careful. It's the person's fault. The game does not control the person.
Controlling a person .. now this is the second point of this blog.
So many people have been posting around facebook, and the rest of the internet that Pokemon is evil, or is from the demon. Oh. My. Gosh. People. Research is the key. Do not believe in everything that's posted around, especially when the website's name/adress is already questionable as source.
So the first thing that was floating around was that Pokemon being Pocket MONSTER already talks about it being evil. Also another version was that it's Pocket DEMON. Really? Who invented that? The radicalists in your church? I am Christian, and I believe Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. Please fellow Christian, fellow humankind, "Research". Make sure your sources are accurate before you blatanly announce things on your facebook, or to your family. Little kids are listening to you. They will either be extremists like you or they will hide things from you (because they want to do things that are fun that you think is from the devil).
A third thing before I give the rest of my "say". Apparently, people are now believing that Satoshi Tajiri, maker of Pokemon, is a satanist. WHAT. ARE. YOU. TALKING. ABOUT. Why are you even dragging him into this? You have to stop putting people down just so you can get more "likes" and "shares".
There is a FAKE article/interview that's crawling around the web saying that since his parents are Christians, he made Pokemon to rebel, and it was made for satanists. HAHAHA. Again, if you only you look at your source, and gosh, research, This 1999 Time Magazine interview NEVER HAPPENED. Most websites even point it out in the beginning, or middle of the article that it's FAKE.
Oh there is fourth part to this. So when Pokemon Go came out, a lot of the PokeStops are churches. Immediately these "people" now say that it's because the demon in the game is trying to take you away from God. BWAHAHAHA. Really? How did you go about that? Is not in the Bible, "Seek God, and everything shall be given unto you." Don't you go to church (seek God), before finding the Pokemon? Everything that will be twisted will be twisted really.
Not knowing that Pokemon Go is actually a game plotted around a previous game made by Niantic which is called INGRESS released in 2012. This game is where people made portals on the places that is normally visited by a lot of people, and submitted it online. Now to talk about it altogether.
Japan, Pokémon's country of origin, has a LOT of anime, games, manga (comic) that has "monster" in the name. Japanese people has been using English in their songs, and random reactions depending on the target audience. Since the target audience would be young people English sounds cool. Monster is a word that is in English and is actually easy for Japanese speakers to say and it would still sound English. Do you guys now understand?
Pocket Monster, Monster Hunter, Monster Strike, Monster Rancher -- to name a few.
Also Japan has a lot of lores that are about ghosts and monster, do you guys know why? It's to teach children lessons, it's to keep them home after 6pm, it's to make them help clean around the house. Most monster stories in Japan, will only be enkcountered when outside really late, or when you don't clean your bathroom. Same as how Filipinos scare their children about monsters that appear at night.
About Satoshi Tajiri, he made Pokémon (the game) based on his childhood hobby and interest -- BUG CATCHING. That's also the reason why at the very first stages of the game, you can connect your gameboy to friend's gameboy and exchange your creatures (bugs) not demons. *sigh* I know not all Japanese are Christians but that does not mean they are satanists. Let's not hate all of Japan just because of the people who know very little about the culture and want to spread bad rumors just so they become facebook famous.
Harry Potter has also gone through hate like this, but I cannot post much about it because my HP research is not complete, and well J.K. Rowling speaks English and can defend herself, but Tajiri-san may not be able to understand and speak very good English, so I want to be able to say my peace about this beloved franchise.
Your kids are safe. You are safe. As long as you know that games cannot and should not control your life.
